Remote online notarizations allow notaries and clients to meet face-to-face online, in real-time, using audiovisual technology. This is distinct from traditional, in-person notarizations, where the notary and the signers must be physically present in the same location. Multi-point, identity verification, including personal identification is used to ensure the integrity of the transaction.
At LiveNotary, our priority is the safety and security of your information. We utilize world-class security, with all audio & video encrypted at REST. Stored documents are encrypted and stored via AWS. In addition, we utilize the latest 256-bit SSL when processing all stored information.
LiveNotary can perform any notarization that is legal for online notarization in the state where the notary is commissioned. Some documents, such as birth certificates, death certificates, and court documents often require in-person notarizations or qualified witnesses. It's always best to check with the party that requires the notarized document to make sure that online notarizations are acceptable.
All notaries on the LiveNotary network are commissioned to notarize in the state or states where they practice. They provide notarizations based on the individual rules and regulations of the states where they are commissioned.
The legal requirements of notarizations vary state-to-state and sometimes different types of notarizations have different standards for acceptable identification. It’s important to know the legal specifics of your state and the transaction requirements of identification.

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic underscored the need for further use of remote online notarizations, and almost every state enacted legislation or executive orders allowing for the legal use of remote online notarization. All of our notaries are legally commissioned to notarize in the states where they practice.
